This X-Men: Days of Future Past trailer with spiritual commentary by David Hoffmeister points to the movie’s underlying message of forgiveness. Wolverine is chosen to heal the destruction of the world by returning to the 1970s on a mission to find and heal the core grievance between the mutants and the rest of humanity. His journey is an allegory of our own spiritual journey, which requires we go back and forgive the core grievance in our mind. Through willingness and perseverance, the characters in this movie eventually discover the love underneath the hatred; that they are actually dear friends. Like us, they come to see that the enemy is not external, and was always only within. “The holiest of all the spots on earth is where an ancient hatred has become a present love.” (A Course in Miracles, T-26.IX.6:1)
Anything perceived as happening in the world need not be judged. You cannot have a better life or a worse life in form. You have no control over the world. The script cannot be changed. The script is the past— it is written. There is great release in knowing this, giving you full permission to be happy. It is really very simple.
