Top Spiritual Movies – David Hoffmeister:

The movie The Ultimate Gift is a very deep movie. It gives you a glimpse of all the steps and stages that you go through with this world. In A Course in Miracles, Jesus describes the six stages of the development of trust. He basically gives us a snapshot of the spiritual journey. Four out of the six stages are difficult or challenging, and many of us can relate to that in our life.

It’s good to be prepared for whatever emotions come up. It can help strengthen your willingness and determination to go all the way with healing the mind.

“The gift of problems” was one of the gifts in the summary at the end of the movie. How would you ever know you need healing unless you had the gift of problems? If you are asleep and dreaming, and you took the dream to be real, you would need something to jolt you back to healing. The movie Inception with Leonardo DiCaprio shows that too. He gets stuck in so many layers of dreaming—dreaming on top of dreaming—that he needs a big wake up kick to come out of the dreaming.

For us, it is a combination of A Course in Miracles and intense emotions that is our wake up kick to start the process of waking up from a deep slumber. If you see the context, you can actually start to welcome problems into your experience. And you can do this if you have a confidence that they will not last. They are like passing clouds that must pass through. There is a much greater purpose behind these seeming problems.

You first must expose the darkness in order to reach the light. So your problem-solving method becomes: first acknowledging what you are feeling, acknowledging that you need help, asking for help, and finally being willing to receive the help that is given you. This is a great movie for that, because the main character was very arrogant and closed down at the beginning. He was very egoic and centered on his own way, with his own lifestyle of spending money. And then at the end of the movie, he is experiencing a life of giving, just wanting to fully give.

Slumdog Millionaire and A Course in Miracles

Anything perceived as happening in the world need not be judged. You cannot have a better life or a worse life in form. You have no control over the world. The script cannot be changed. The script is the past— it is written. There is great release in knowing this, giving you full permission to be happy. It is really very simple.
