The movie Solaris is a beautiful illustration of True Forgiveness; it is literally a life raft out of this world. Several lines of the Dylan Thomas poem “Death Shall Have No Dominion” are heard in the movie and capsulize it beautifully:
Though they go mad they shall be sane,
Though they sink through the sea they shall rise again;
Though lovers be lost love shall not;
And death shall have no dominion.
The planet Solaris is the representation of abstract Love, Light, and Oneness. One of the most well-known passages in the Course states, “The course does not aim at teaching the meaning of love, for that is beyond what can be taught. It does aim, however, at removing the blocks to the awareness of love’s presence, which is your natural inheritance.” In-1 Since Oneness is realized by looking at and releasing false ego beliefs, Solaris reflects whatever issues are unresolved and unforgiven in the unconscious mind. It pushes up all of the darkness—the blocks to Love’s awareness—so that they may be healed.
Solaris is teaching us that cause and effect are together. If we release the false cause in our mind, we also release all the effects—pain, suffering, and upset—that seemed to be a result of that cause. That is what True Forgiveness really is. When we truly forgive the belief that we could have ever existed outside of the Mind of God, Innocence reigns! We realize that we have never done anything wrong, and everything is forgiven because it never happened in Reality!
Whenever we have a sense of hurt, pain, grief, loss—or any feeling other than joy—it is because we are holding an egoic thought in our mind. Our feelings may seem to stem from an event that happened in the past, or to be a concern about something that may happen in the future, but that isn’t the case; they come from a present fear. To believe otherwise is just an attempt to cover over the present moment, the holy instant, with a false idea. The good news is that a present release is possible. It’s not a matter of time; we have the power to release our mind from pain, suffering, and illusions now. We tend to believe that forgiveness may take many lifetimes of inner work and processing, that it is a huge thought reversal, but it actually requires only the tiniest little tweak in perspective.
Solaris is the ultimate forgiveness movie. It is not forgiveness the way the world teaches it, which is to believe that someone has done us wrong and we have to find a way to bless them. With True Forgiveness, we start to realize that we were mistaken about everything we have ever perceived. This opens the gateway to healing, the gateway to true freedom. Even thinking we were only ninety-nine percent wrong would not do it, because even a one-percent inkling that we might be right would prevent our full awareness from opening to this healing power.
