Get Started Movie Watching with Purpose!

Movie watching can be a powerful spiritual practice!!

In our community, we watch a LOT of movies. Anytime, we are experiencing emotions like anger, anxiety or guilt about something, we watch movies that deal with those emotions or topics, and use the movie watching to help us move through the emotions, gain a new perspective, and return to a state of inner peace.

If you’re interested in taking your spiritual practice to a whole new level, we warmly invite you to join us in using movie watching as a spiritual practice. Here’s how you can get started immediately:

Steps for Spiritual Movie Watching

  1. Use our movie search tool to select the emotion your are experiencing or a theme that may specifically address whatever issues you’re struggling with or wanting more insight on.

  2. Browse through the movies it suggests and pick one that you feel may be helpful.

  3. While watching the movie, allow your feelings to surface without censoring them. Your feelings are not really coming from the movie itself, but from your own unconscious desires, beliefs and thoughts that are being reflected by the movie.

  4. Use our Instrument for Peace or Levels of Mind form to help you transcend these desires, beliefs, emotions, and thoughts. These tools can be absolutely invaluable for helping you to expose and release faulty assumptions and beliefs that have been keeping you imprisoned for years or even lifetimes! Give yourself permission to really take your time with this… to pause the movie anytime you need to stop and fill out the form. The time you devote to your own spiritual and mental healing will be well, well worth it!

“Use movie watching to pay attention to your mind, to pay attention to your thoughts.”

With willingness, the mind becomes open to the Holy Spirit’s reinterpretation of perception, which is the goal of all mind training.

The first of the fifty miracle principles at the beginning of A Course in Miracles says there is no order of difficulty in miracles, and this comes from a deeper understanding that there is no hierarchy of illusions.

Consistent use of the mind tools when watching movies leads to a truly loving and detached observation of perception that is the Holy Spirit’s “real world” instead of the sleeping mind’s version of “the real world.”

“Mind training with movies is a way to heal the mind; to be free of all distortions and judgment. It can be intense at first, but it gives way to joy, and you open up more to lasting peace, happiness and contentment.”

Change Your Thoughts, Change Your World

We are always adding stories, interpretations & meaning to our experiences. All the feelings we have watching a movie are coming from within us. We  never react to what happens directly, we always react to our interpretation of what is happening. What we need to work with is correcting our interpretations and perceptions.

How many of us have tried to correct our behavior?

I am too fat; I will go on a diet.
I do not have enough money; I will go get a better job.
I have a certain kind of illness ; I will go to a specialist that does an operation or gives me medicine
I want to be a good Christian like Jesus and be kind; I am going to try to be a kind person. Meanwhile, there is anger or rage inside, but we are trying to put on a nice mask because we think we want to do the kind thing.

Forget about your behavior. Behavior will follow automatically from your thoughts and perceptions. Do not try to fix things out there with your behavior, but instead look at perception and raise up the false beliefs. Then you will have a transformation of your mind. Behavior will follow automatically. Doesn’t that make sense? Intuitively you can see where this is going.

Every thought you have makes up some segment of the world you see. It is with your thoughts then that we must work if your perception of the world is to be changed.

“Classics movies like “Revolver” and “The Truman Show” are masterful movies to help the mind awaken. The observer and the observed are one. The unified perception is a healed, peaceful perception.”
