Til Death Do Us Part! Dysfunctional Families, Forgiveness, and the Movie “Meet the Fockers” ~ David Hoffmeister Spiritual Awakening Signs

Meet the Fockers

Welcome to Meet the Fockers, the ultimate people-pleasing movie! Like any big family reunion, it is a goldmine of comedy and dysfunction.

Ben Stiller’s character is intensely people-pleasing. He is trying to please the parents and placate the family until finally he can’t do it; it is killing him. We have all experienced this. We are in the middle of some scene in our lives and we are thinking how did I get here? What in the world would have ever prompted me to do this? The hilarious clashes between the families in this movie are merely the acting out of the crazy, unconscious beliefs in the mind. To the extent that we become identified with the characters, it is hell.

The ego is the insane belief that we could leave God and find ourselves in a strange and distant land. The characters in our world then act out these concretized beliefs and become a motion picture of dysfunctional beliefs that must be flushed into awareness in order for healing to occur.

Dysfunction is the baseline of the space-time experience. As we begin to heal, we move towards holy relationship and begin to draw forth more and more witnesses to what is really in our hearts. We seem to be making progress until we go back to our families and feel Wow, these concretized beliefs seem to be set in stone!  Sometimes it can feel that way with our parents, until we begin to see that they are just symbols and it starts to lighten up.

As we go deeper inward and come more into alignment with purpose, we release the past, and see that these situations and encounters with family are the acting out of what is still pushed out of awareness. We can feel disoriented during the process of transformation before it becomes stable and consistent. There is a sorting process underway and everything feels stirred up. This is when we need our Mighty Companions to walk with us, supporting us to lock into purpose and be ready for whatever is coming our way.

Eventually, after the tears and frustration, we reach a point where we begin to laugh at it all. It gets funnier and funnier and we are in the transcendence, aligned with Spirit.

Slumdog Millionaire and A Course in Miracles

Anything perceived as happening in the world need not be judged. You cannot have a better life or a worse life in form. You have no control over the world. The script cannot be changed. The script is the past— it is written. There is great release in knowing this, giving you full permission to be happy. It is really very simple.
