David Hoffmeister: “Everything that is meant to happen cannot be prevented, and everything that is not meant to happen cannot be made to happen. There is great release in that. It is written. The script is the past. You cannot change the script. You cannot have a better life in form. You cannot have a worse life in form. This gives you full permission to be happy.
The main character, Jamal, wants to be on the television show Who Wants to Be a Millionaire because he knows that the girl he likes will be watching. In the end he believes it was all destiny. Everything that seems to occur is part of destiny. Just as awakening from the dream is destiny. Destiny means you can't change it. It is certain. Our identity as Christ is certain. There is nothing that a body can do—or not do—to change that. You just need to accept that you cannot make a mistake. It's absolutely impossible. That is why there is no reason for guilt.
Jamal’s trust and faith are being shown to him over and over. He knows he can't make a mistake. That's why we say, 'Really listen deep inside.' We already have the answers to all the questions, whatever they are. Don't look outside yourself, because that can be a delay maneuver. Just stay open. The movie Slumdog Millionaire shows that perfectly.
The form is not important and therefore the outcome in form is not important. Jamal will either win a large sum of money or he will get nothing: that is a form outcome. It seems that the television show is being broadcast to millions of people and they are cheering for an outcome, because to many it represents escape from poverty and extreme conditions.
In order to come up with the answer to win the prize, Jamal has to give one of four letters: A, B, C, or D. That is another form outcome. Then the girl gives him the answer that he wants to hear in his heart: 'I am safe.' That is the answer. The form outcome doesn't matter. He doesn't care about the money. He doesn't care about winning. He just wants to hear in his heart one answer: 'I am safe.' Think about that as you go through your day. That is what you are really asking for. The form outcomes can't touch you, whatever they are.
We are letting go of the belief in form, and we are opening to a new way of living in the moment. When you feel sad about poverty, it is only because there is a definition in the mind. That is all the ego does. It defines everything. It defines the world. It reads meaning onto the world.
How do we deal with poverty? We turn to Jesus and we say, 'Master, tell me what poverty is. I must be wrong because I've been sad about what I perceive.' And Jesus says, 'Poverty is ego thinking, and abundance is thinking with the Holy Spirit.' All our definitions of poverty in form are wrong because they come from the ego. It also means that all our definitions of abundance in form are wrong because they come from the ego too.
When we are happy, joyful, and peaceful for no earthly reason, we are thinking with the Holy Spirit and we know the true abundance in which poverty is impossible.”
