Mind-Watching, Awakening, and Spiritual Movies ~ “Into the Wild” Review by David Hoffmeister

~ Spiritual Movies and the Awakening Process ~

“The awakening process is about watching your thoughts, and watching your thoughts, and watching your thoughts! Just noticing the thoughts can be used in a helpful way. And you may get to the point of getting clearer and clearer in your mind.” David Hoffmeister Movie Watcher’s Guide to Enlightenment.

The movie Into the Wild is a classic for guidance and mind-watching. Adventure and spontaneous encounters can be a path to awakening. A young man named Chris turns from society in an attempt to find the truth. In his quest he encounters many friends that help loosen him from his fixed ideas of himself and the world. The willingness to be truly helpful opens the heart and leads to joining.

The search for clarity can seem to lead down many paths, and into many places, but eventually it must be seen that awakening is a completely inward endeavor and you can't escape from the world. A line from A Course in Miracles applies here:

"All its roads but lead to disappointment, nothingness and death. There is no choice in its alternatives. Seek not escape from problems here. The world was made that problems could not be escaped. Be not deceived by all the different names its roads are given. They have but one end. And each is but the means to gain that end, for it is here that all its roads will lead, however differently they seem to start; however differently they seem to go. Their end is certain, for there is no choice among them. All of them will lead to death. On some you travel gaily for a while, before the bleakness enters. And on some the thorns are felt at once. The choice is not what will the ending be, but when it comes." (T-31.IV.2)

And yet this was the time they could have learned their greatest lesson. Forgiveness of the misperceptions held about our brothers and sisters leads to the realization that we are all in this together. Joy and certainty come from inclusion in the inward journey. This is the value of mighty companions.
