David Hoffmeister: The same movie stars show up again and again in our favourite top spiritual movies!
This week we take a look at Scarlett Johansson who first came to our screens as a young girl in The Horse Whisperer and progressed through a transcendence of time and space in the Quantum Movie Lucy.
Here is a sneak peak at 5 movies that feature on the Movie Watcher’s Guide to Enlightenment!
LUCY – 2014
Emotion/Theme: Awakening, Holy relationship, Time, Mighty companions, The Script is Written, Real Sight, Awareness of Dreaming, Enlightenment, Forgiveness
Genre: Action, Science Fiction
Who you are is from before time was. Time is a concept, made to measure and therefore “give reality” to man’s existence within an illusion. Matter is held together by thought, and the belief in (and the need for) a bodily identity. Mind cannot die. Mind is eternal and is beyond the realm of time and space. When awareness of self has expanded beyond a limited bodily identity, time and space are literally in the hands of the miracle-worker.
When Lucy finds herself caught up in a drug trafficking nightmare, it appears to be the worst situation imaginable. A packet of drugs are surgically implanted in her stomach and when they begin to leak, she experiences a transformation of consciousness that takes her all the way to total transcendence from human consciousness to pure awareness.
Chef – 2014
Emotion/Theme: Dare to Take Step, Faith, Healing, Mighty Companions, Purpose,Inspiration, Letting Go of Form
Genre: Comedy, Drama
We are all on our pathway back to God and although each one’s path is unique in terms of the form, there are certain steps that we all must take. For example, we all must learn to let go of the things that are no longer serving us.
Carl Casper is an acclaimed chef and intuitively he knows that it is time to let his restaurant job go, but he clings to it out of a sense of security, compromising himself with the restaurant owner. Instead of following his heart and cooking what he loves, he bows to fear and decides to take the safe option and not risk losing his job. But the Spirit is calling and no one can ignore this call forever.
HER – 2013
Emotion/Theme: Fear of Love, Sex, Self Concept, Metaphysical, Loneliness, Join in Purpose, Holy Relationship, Letting Go of Form, Vibrational Connection, Fear of Commitment
Genre: Drama, Romance
A practical movie for showing the shifts needed to loosen from body identification and of facing the fear of opening up beyond physical connection and into intimacy in mind. In this movie, Theodore joins Samantha, an operating system, in the purpose of expanding her mind and, in the process, their relationship goes from romantic to quantum. The fear of divine love is the fear of disappearing; it is the ego’s fear of obliteration. Spirit uses vibrational connection to entice us to drop our masks and get closer to one another to experience our Christ self. The sharing of feelings and thoughts without filter leads into the feelings of deeper joining and connectedness
The Island – 2005
Emotion/Theme: Join in Purpose, Metaphysical, Discover True Identity, Injustice,Deception, Perfectionism, Finding Purpose, Join in Purpose, Following, Awakening
Genre: Action, Science Fiction
The Island is a powerful metaphysical movie, clearly depicting the steps taken in the process of spiritual awakening from living as a deceived mind, to awakening to the reality that the life you thought you had, was not life at all! The main characters in The Island, Lincoln Six-Echo and Jordan Two-Delta—aka Tom and Sarah—walk this path as they begin to question the world in front of their eyes as being their ultimate reality. The Spirit leads them step-by-step and clue-by-clue to the awareness that they’ve been duped. They are not who they think they are, and their lives have been a sham—even their memories are manufactured.
The Horse Whisperer – 1998
Emotion/Theme: False/True Empathy, Unworthiness, Heal Past Associations, Guilt
Genre: Drama, Romance
Quiet inner strength comes with integrity. Patience, gentleness, and tranquility transcend the busy distractions and fast pace of the world. With inner strength one can smile at the script, for no outcome can be fearful. And in the end there are no good-byes, for we are one Self.
