We continue our mini reviews of the movie stars who show up again and again in our favorite spiritual movies. This week we take a look at Nicolas Cage who got his start in teenage comedies and went on to play a wide variety of roles in such films as Raising Arizona, Moonstruck, and Con Air. Nicolas has gone on to star in some of our favorite metaphysical greats!
Here is a sneak peak at 5 of his movies that feature on the Movie Watcher’s Guide to Enlightenment!
It Could Happen To You – 1994, Comedy, Drama
Spirit knows the way to give you the full heart opening experience of love. Just ask for it, the prayer of your heart, invest yourself in it, and trust Spirit. Accept what’s given, accept your worthiness, and you will find that love is either in your heart or on the way.
The world is full of fairy tales and miracles; a good, honest heart, a promise that is kept, a destiny that could not be denied. Love prevails over fear and deception and greed, for the light shines bright in a heart made ready to give. And when we give the love in our heart, the whole world is in love. Gentleness, kindness, respect and honor follow the pure of heart. It could happen to you!
Knowing – 2009, Drama, Mystery
This movie shows there is a way to truth through surrendering to something greater than one’s tiny self. What is perceived as insane in this world is actually a call to be sane. Following prompts and clues lead to a way home, even if it seems backwards and upside down. This surrendering and yielding to the light happens through facing one’s worst fear. This is portrayed when the female character sees that in fact her mother has been a prophet, and prophets are perceived as insane by this world. The end of the world is in the mind, but it can seem as if everyone is not ready to leave the world behind. All are called but few choose to listen.
“The wolf also shall dwell with the lamb, and the leopard shall lie down with the kid; and the calf and the young lion and the fatling together; and a little child shall lead them.” (Isaiah 11:6)
Next – 2007, Action
This movie Next is featured in Quantum Forgiveness: Physics, Meet Jesus, where David Hoffmeister uses quantum physics and 7 mind-expanding movies as modern-day parables to guide you into an experience of Quantum Forgiveness.
What if everything that seemed to play out was just hypothetical? What if every possibility could be seen and then the mind could zoom in and select which scenario to play out? Cris Johnson has a psychic ability that allows him to do this, and yet without any real sense of purpose, his life is one of hiding and pretense. The Holy Spirit uses attraction and a relationship to get his attention and open him up to seeing, that through joining, he can go beyond his fears and expand his perception and abilities.
The individual concerned for himself will always end up with the same result (pain and loss). Following the Spirit leads to what is best for the whole. It deletes unnecessary drama and saves time.
It is a great movie to remind us that no matter how many ways we look at trying to change the future, we must find out that only a change of purpose is the answer. The whole world is hypothetical and when this is seen, there is surrender. The script is written and there is no point in trying to figure it all out. Just rest and join with your brother to end the past. It is all forgiven and at any point we can choose again for the plan of the Holy Spirit.
City of Angels – 1998, Drama, Romance
Nothing in this world will satisfy you. When we forget this and pursue things in the world, the result is always the same. There can seem to be temporary satisfaction, but the end result is always pain, guilt, and death. This world is not your home and so it can never give you what you want deep in your heart. The movie uses the symbol of angels to show the presence of God’s Love. The deep metaphysical idea that the script is written is beautifully depicted. When we know that the script is written and everything is literally going to play out the way it will play out, then all our fighting and struggling is gone. We can relax and surrender to the One who knows.
The Croods – 2013, Animation, Adventure
The Croods are the last remaining of their kind, teetering on the brink of change! Grug is the overprotective father figure, who is a walking testimony to “Never not be afraid”. Grug believes life is to be lived in “routine, darkness and terror.” The Croods spend most of their existence in the dark “safety” of their cave, where the outlook on life is “do not do anything new or different”.
Change is inevitable and against all of Grug’s attempts to “protect” his family, the world around him disintegrates, the cave is destroyed and the family literally has no option but to take an initial leap into a new world.
